Beekeeping – A Honey of a Hobby
Each winter AABA offers a beginning beekeeping course for anyone interested in learning the basics of beekeeping. The 2023 registration is now closed.
The 2023 Short Course Schedule
AABA will offer the 2023 Short Course as a hybrid format. This is a seven-session course. Plan to attend 5 Zoom Sessions, in-person Equipment Lab and final Session Field Day.
Required Textbook: The Beekeeper’s Handbook, by Diana Sammataro & Alphonse Avitabile, 5th Ed.

The Syllabus
The course consists of seven (7) sessions and covers the following material:
- Introduction to Beekeeping
- Honey Bee Biology
- Equipment
- Spring / Summer Management
- Fall / Winter Management
- Maintaining Healthy Bees
- Pollen and Nectar Sources
- Honey and other Products of the Hive
Session 1 Wed. February 22, 6:30 – 8:30 pm
Session 2 Equipment Lab* Sat. February 25, (times to be assigned)
Session 3 Wed. March 1, 6:30 – 8:30 pm
Session 4 Wed. March 8, 6:30 – 8:30 pm
Session 5 Wed. March 15, 6:30 – 8:30 pm
Session 6 Wed. March 22, 6:30 – 8:30 pm
Session 7 Field Day* Sat. April 1, (times to be assigned)
*In-person classes. Small groups will be assigned times 9 – 10:45 am or 11:30 – 1:15 pm
